Allen Community Outreach (Latter Day Saints)

The mission of Allen Community Outreach is to rebuild lives in Allen, Fairview and Lucas by providing emergency assistance for families and individuals. Your donations go directly to families in this area and it’s easy to do!

  1. Fill a bag with your donation of non-perishable food items, Spanish books, or DVDs (no R-ratings). All donations welcome; however, the ACO food pantry is in immediate need of the following:
    rice & pasta canned tomatoes (any type) canned potatoes
    canned vegetables canned beans (any type) canned fruit (any type)
    hamburger/tuna helper soup peanut butter
  2.  Leave the bag outside your door before 9:00a, Saturday, 20 May 2017 with a note indicating “ACO”. Volunteers will collect donations between 9:00a–1:00p. Thank-you for supporting local families in need.
  3. If someone fails to pick up a bag on May 20 by 1 PM please call Scott Veibell at 972.567.8908 or drop the item off at FUMC Allen on May 20 until 4:00 PM.

ACO KIDS Summer Food Program

Summer time means kids are out of school and for many it also means that they miss the school breakfast and lunches provided by the school lunch program. To support these children and keep them fed this summer, the goal of ACO and Change the World weekend is to collect 1600 bags and be prepared for Summer 2017. Please help by donating a complete bag or any individual items from the list below. Contact Kim Montange for collection sites or drop off at FUMC Allen through May 21.

1 box breakfast cereal 1 box instant oatmeal 1 pkg of low sugar juice boxes
1 box of granola or breakfast protein bars 1 jar of peanut butter 1 jar of jelly/jam (grape or strawberry)
1 pkg of snack fruit cups 1 pkg of snack pudding cups (non-refrigerated) 4 microwaveable mac-n-cheese
2 cans soup (chicken noodle & kids’ favorite flavors) 2 can ravioli or spaghettios  

Family Promise

The Family Promise of Collin County’s mission is to help homeless families with children to achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response.

The primary need of Family Promise is $25 gift cards for gas and automotive services (e.g. Firestone, Goodyear, Discount Tire, Christian Brothers, brake repair shops). The cards will be distributed to the families they assist in this area.

Card location drop off: the locked mail box on the East Entrance hallway at FUMC Allen, 601 S. Greenville Ave. Please mark the envelope: Change the World Allen 2017; Family Promise Donation in care of Burna Faye Kennedy or mail to FUMC Allen, 601 S Greenville Ave, Allen TX 75002 in care of Burna Faye Kennedy/CTW Family Promise Donation.

Family Promise Project Two

Another project that will support Family Promise is donations of the following:

  • water bottles
  • paper products
  • Swiffer Wet Jet replacement supplies

Please drop off items at FUMC Allen in the appropriately marked bins. Project leader is still needed.

Hope’s Door

The Ruth Circle from First United Methodist Church Allen has chosen to support the Change The World weekend by donating to Hope’s Door. Each member collects personal items and fills a creatively decorated shoe box along with a small toy for a child. They deliver these boxes to Hope’s Door for distribution to residents.

Hygiene Kits

The Girl Scouts and Kim Montange are leading a project to collect hygiene items for various shelters including Community Life Line Center and Hope’s Door. Contact Kim at kmmontange@yahoo.com for specific collection sites or drop off at FUMC Allen. The following items may be donated to be part of these kits:

shampoo conditioner soap (bar, hand soap) toothbrush
toothpaste deodorant sanitizing wipes  

Lowe’s Gift Cards

May Change the World projects for Home Improvements require building materials which Lowe’s has graciously supported this event. Lowe’s gift cards to help support these efforts are appreciated and can be dropped off in envelopes address to Change the World Allen 2017 at FUMC Allen at 601 S. Greenville. Please note on the envelope that this is for support of building materials.

Military Support Group

Help us build care packages for our troops. Buckets are available after May 1 at the entrances at First United Methodist Church Allen to collect items to package on Sunday, May 21.

Cash donations to help pay for the shipping costs can be dropped in the offering plate (mark the check for military support) or left at the church office.

Shiloh Place

This is a ministry to single moms and their kids. They are requesting $25 gift cards (Amazon and Walmart) to help meet their needs. These cards may be dropped off at FUMC Allen in an envelope addressed to Change the World Allen Shiloh Place. Project leader is needed to take on this project.

Feed the Volunteers

Throughout this event meals are provided to volunteers. If you are able to provide any of the following items, it would be greatly appreciated. They can be dropped off at First United Methodist Church Allen in the Fellowship Hall kitchen Thursday May 18 between 9 AM and 5 PM and on Friday May 19 between 9 AM and noon.
